I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Republic of Korea on behalf of President Claudia Sheinbaum for the warm reception and excellent forum organized in this APEC occasion.
Well, we are navigating a period of profound global transformation. This kind of changes implies uncertainties, but also opportunities.
In this context, the objective of regional integration is not only essential, but from our point of view, it’s an ethical responsibility. APEC represents 61% of the global GDP and a great opportunity to strengthen cooperation and multilateral institutions. We need to prepare ourselves to face a new economy reality.
We need to improve our domestic growth and development, but at the same time, strengthen the international trade system. This can be difficult to manage at the same time, both priorities. In the case of Mexico, President Sheinbaum launched an ambitious Plan Mexico, which means essentially an industrial and economic strategy to face the situation that we are living right now, those changes.
We know that this is working well. We have received more than 10% increase this year, comparing with the past year in foreign investment. And so we know that this strategy is working.
But we need to strengthen our multilateral activities and working with our trading partners on investment nearshoring, advanced manufacturing, and other fields. We know that we need the private sector. We are working very hard in this regard in many initiatives, creating adoption of digital technologies, smart infrastructure, and green energy solutions.
Regarding the APEC role, Mexico is committed to play a role between Asia and the Americas. That’s why Mexico is willing to host APEC in 2028. We aim to advance an agenda that celebrates our diversity and strengthens the region’s collective capacity to respond to global challenges.
I think that in times of uncertainty, APEC can lead the way, can help a lot, even for the reform of the World Trade Organization and other institutions. So Mexico is fully on board to fulfill this purpose. Let’s do it together.

Me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer, en nombre de la presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum, a la República de Corea por la cálida recepción y el excelente foro organizado con motivo de esta reunión de APEC.
Estamos atravesando un período de profunda transformación global. Este tipo de cambios implica incertidumbres, pero también oportunidades.
En este contexto, el objetivo de la integración regional no solo es esencial, sino que, desde nuestro punto de vista, es una responsabilidad ética. APEC representa el 61% del PIB mundial y una gran oportunidad para fortalecer la cooperación y las instituciones multilaterales. Debemos prepararnos para enfrentar una nueva realidad económica.
Necesitamos mejorar nuestro crecimiento y desarrollo interno, pero al mismo tiempo fortalecer el sistema de comercio internacional. Puede resultar difícil gestionar ambas prioridades al mismo tiempo. En el caso de México, la presidenta Sheinbaum ha lanzado un ambicioso Plan México, que consiste esencialmente en una estrategia industrial y económica para enfrentar la situación que vivimos actualmente y los cambios en curso.
Sabemos que esto está funcionando bien. Hemos recibido este año un incremento de más del 10% en la inversión extranjera en comparación con el año pasado. Así que sabemos que esta estrategia está dando resultados.
Pero necesitamos fortalecer nuestras actividades multilaterales y trabajar con nuestros socios comerciales en inversión nearshoring, manufactura avanzada y otros ámbitos. Sabemos que necesitamos del sector privado. Estamos trabajando arduamente en este sentido, en numerosas iniciativas, fomentando la adopción de tecnologías digitales, infraestructura inteligente y soluciones de energía verde.
Con respecto al papel de APEC, México está comprometido a desempeñar un papel de enlace entre Asia y las Américas. Por ello, México está dispuesto a ser anfitrión de APEC en 2028. Nuestro objetivo es impulsar una agenda que celebre nuestra diversidad y fortalezca la capacidad colectiva de la región para responder a los desafíos globales.
Creo que, en tiempos de incertidumbre, APEC puede marcar el rumbo y contribuir significativamente, incluso a la reforma de la Organización Mundial del Comercio y de otras instituciones. Así que México está completamente comprometido con este propósito. Hagámoslo juntos.
